Social Media – just do it?

As anyone who's ever worked for Nike will tell you, you can take the person out of Nike but you can't take Nike out of the person. So I apologise for the title of this post, but every now and then I do have a 'Nike moment', even though it's over 10 years since I left.

At the beginning of each new year it's exciting to see what everyone's talking about, and this year there seem to be two dominant themes – economic gloom and social media.

Sponsoring Sophia

The daughter of a neighbour and friend is leaving next month for India, where she will spend 2 months volunteering at Bija Vidyapeeth, a centre for sustainability based on ecological principles. She is travelling mostly overland, and after leaving India will spend time at the Lotus Children's Centre in Mongolia before making her way home, again overland. All this before starting university in October 2009.

When the norm these days seems to be for young people to be obsessed with their iPods, music, celebrities and shopping, it's fantastic to hear of those who clearly want to make a difference to the world and are prepared to do something about it.

Thoughts about the New Year

I'm currently in the middle of a 2 week break from work, the first week (Christmas) I was laid up with flu, and this week (New Year) I'm recuperating. So hence the lack of blog posts. But here we are on January 1st, and although I don't intend to add to the many 'reviews of the year'/ 'top ten whatever' lists, nevertheless there's something about New Year that invites introspection.

'What are your plans for your business for 2009?' asked my husband a couple of days ago.
