I'm currently in the middle of a 2 week break from work, the first week (Christmas) I was laid up with flu, and this week (New Year) I'm recuperating. So hence the lack of blog posts. But here we are on January 1st, and although I don't intend to add to the many 'reviews of the year'/ 'top ten whatever' lists, nevertheless there's something about New Year that invites introspection.
'What are your plans for your business for 2009?' asked my husband a couple of days ago. It was a good question. It made me start thinking about the future after having been wallowing around feeling sorry for myself.
I realised there were plenty of things brewing in my mind already. Not all fully formed ideas, but positive thoughts just the same:
1) My website has been languishing, the last big overhaul was a year ago and already the service descriptions don't quite ring true. So, re-visit what it is that Eggbox offers, and review the purpose and presentation of the website, is number one on the list.
2) Email marketing, for several years at the heart of what I do, will be less significant as a stand-alone service this year. I need to work with email marketing clients (mostly long-term, good, solid clients) on their wider online marketing strategies and expand and consolidate on the service I offer them. Which brings me to number 3.
3) Integrated online marketing is the way forward. Rather than separating services out, I will be talking about them in the same breath. This is already happening with some clients. Everything is overlapping in the social web.
4) Content. I'm excited to see content back in fashion. Demand for SEO copy writing, just for starters, is high. Yay!
5) Presentation skills: I'd love to explore a new service based on a new dynamic style of visual presentation that could really rejuvenate the corporate world. Sounds very grand, doesn't it? This is my 'big new project' which I hope I'll be able to get off the ground in 2009.
6) More collaboration. Eggbox has always been a fluid sort of business, based on my own skills and interests but reaching out here and there on projects with partners and collaborators. I'd like to do more of that, as well as embrace and support co-operative ways of working. More eggs in more baskets.
Happy New Year!
